The Council of Yukon First Nations (CYFN) and the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) announce a partnership to increase capacity among Yukon First Nations and Indigenous people in the human services area.
CYFN and NVIT are offering a two-year Indigenous Human Services (IHS) Diploma program. Funding support is provided through the Post-Secondary Partnerships Program from Indigenous Services Canada to cover tuition and program materials.
The IHS program is grounded in cultural knowledge and practices. It provides comprehensive educational and professional development training in human service delivery. The program will increase Yukon First Nation capacity by equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for careers that provide essential services to Yukon First Nations.
27 students representing 11 Yukon First Nations, are enrolled in the 20-course program that launched this week. It is being delivered in Whitehorse through a condensed course model, allowing students to continue to work full-time throughout their studies.
The collaboration with NVIT is an essential step toward building stronger, more self-sufficient communities. By equipping students with the necessary skills and knowledge through the Indigenous Human Services Diploma program, we are ensuring that Yukon First Nations can provide essential support and services that are culturally relevant and responsive to the unique needs of our communities
